EOP Freshmen attending Summer Institute (SI)

EOP Freshmen selected to attend Summer Institute (SI) will NOT need to make a reservation for SOAR. You will automatically participate in the exciting SOAR events while you are here on campus for SI. You do not need to make a SOAR reservation for that reason; instead make sure you are on track to attend SI.

EOP Transfer Students and Freshmen attending SOAR (not SI)

Making Your SOAR Reservation:

  • Go to the SOAR web site at http://studentlife.calpoly.edu/ori/soar for dates and other details.
  • Keep in mind that EOP will pay your SOAR reservation fee as you review the options listed on the web site for you and any family members who accompany you. (The fees that are listed on the various options do not apply to you.) You will only need to go to CashNet and make a payment if you are making a reservation for the Parent Program (Freshmen only) and/or you plan to purchase extra meal tickets for your guests.
  • Follow the sign up instructions at http://studentlife.calpoly.edu/ori/soar/signup.asp on the SOAR web site. Be sure to read the information regarding Reservation Changes and Cancellations. EOP will not be responsible for any fees due to reservation changes.
  • If you miss the reservation deadline, you will be responsible for any late fees.
  • If you do not have to make a CashNet payment, go to the SOAR channel on the MyCalPoly portal (refer to the sign up instructions for directions).

Lodging:

  • Since EOP is paying for your lodging, you will not be able to make your lodging reservation via the portal. Make your reservation by submitting a Lodging Form which will be sent to you via email later this week. You will have to mail or fax your form to Cal Poly Conference Services. If you plan to stay overnight at Cal Poly when you come for SOAR, EOP will cover the cost of one night's lodging on campus for you. Although you will not have to pay for your one night of lodging if you stay on campus, you will need to submit a payment if another family member or significant other plans to stay overnight with you. Follow the instructions on the Lodging Form once you receive it. (Transfer students - SOAR is unable to provide lodging for your parents or significant others. Visit http://www.visitslo.com for a list of local area accommodations)

EOP Meeting:

  • During SOAR, you are required to attend a mandatory meeting with your EOP advisor. Your parents or other supporters are welcome to attend this meeting with you.
    • Freshmen - your advisor will contact you to arrange a time to meet with you during the morning you arrive for your SOAR program.
    • Transfers - a meeting has been scheduled for you to meet with your EOP advisor from 8:00 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. on the day of your SOAR program in the right wing of Chumash Auditorium (on the second floor of the University Union).

Travel Stipend:

  • As an EOP student, you will receive a $50 travel allowance to reimburse you for your travel to SOAR. Your $50 check will be given to you at SOAR if it is available at that time. Otherwise, it will be mailed to you, as soon as possible, after August 17th.

If you have any questions about making your SOAR reservation, contact the SOAR office at (805) 756-2233 or your EOP advisor at (805) 756-2301.
